The National Disability Insurance Scheme (NDIS) is designed to assist Australians between the ages of 9 to 65 who face enduring and substantial disabilities. These disabilities span a wide spectrum, encompassing physical, sensory, cognitive, intellectual, and psychosocial challenges.

Not all types of support required by a person living with a disability fall under the responsibility of the NDIS.
Some supports are funded by other areas of government (e.g. state health systems) or existing public/community services.
In general, the NDIS will fund reasonable and necessary supports that help a person living with a disability enjoy an ordinary life.
These supports and services fall into three categories.
A support that assists with activities of daily living.
A support for an investment, such as assistive technologies; equipment and home or vehicle modifications; or funding for capital costs (e.g. to pay for Specialist Disability Accommodation).
A support that helps build independence and skills. Common examples of supports provided or funded by the NDIS include:
Help with personal care activities and/or household tasks
Home and vehicle modifications
Assistive technology, aids and mobility equipment, including set up and training by skilled personnel
Transport to enable participation in community, social, economic and daily life activities, e.g. workplace, gym or places of learning
Support to find and keep a job
Therapeutic supports like occupational therapy, speech therapy and behaviour support
Health-related supports (as long as they are a regular part of your patient’s life and the need for them arises from a disability), e.g. continence, diabetic management, dysphagia, epilepsy, nutrition, podiatry, respiratory and wound and pressure care supports (see the Disability-related health supports page for full details).
The National Disability Insurance Scheme (NDIS) aims to fund activities it deems essential for your full participation in life.
These activities span education, employment, social interaction, independence, living arrangements, health and well-being services, and even support for intimacy.
For the NDIS to consider funding, supports should meet the following criteria:
Directly related to your disability
Provide value for money
Likely to be effective and beneficial for you
Account for existing government, family, caregiver, community, and support network assistance
Exclude day-to-day living expenses unrelated to disability support needs
When considering whether to request support, ask yourself:
Does it help me achieve my goals, objectives, and aspirations?
Will it enhance my independence?
Does it promote my engagement in work or community activities?
Will it develop my ability to participate fully in the community?
The NDIS follows operational guidelines to assess the suitability of specific supports for you.
If you have an NDIS plan or are updating an existing one, remember that assistance is available to help you determine which services can be covered within your budget.

Every business operates with distinct levels of overhead costs, which vary based on factors such as size and operational scale. For instance, start-up ventures may have different cost structures compared to well-established enterprises. Consequently, service providers may adjust their pricing accordingly to accommodate their unique circumstances. It's important to note that providers working with NDIA or plan-managed participants adhere to hourly rate limits set annually by the NDIS and Fair Work Commission. However, additional charges may apply, and these extra costs are typically borne by the participant.
